Steve Dosse : Changer d’état d’esprit et signer son 1er contrat professionnel
Steve DOSSE, jeune joueur de football originaire du Bénin, a récemment écrit une grande page de son histoire personnelle, en signant son tout premier contrat professionnel en Europe. L’émergence d’un talent « dormant »
Repéré dans l’académie » BES Académie » à Cotonou, Steve DOSSE était reconnu comme un joueur prometteur. Cependant, malgré son talent, il devait faire face à un défi : exploiter véritablement son potentiel et faire preuve de plus détermination sur le terrain et en dehors. En effet Steve, peut-être par excès de confiance, pouvait avoir une attitude nonchalante. Il était présent aux entraînements mais ne s’entrainait pas vraiment sérieusement. Par contre, avec ces qualités naturelles, quand il était sur le terrain, il faisait quand même partie des meilleurs joueurs.
Premiers échecs dans des clubs professionnels européens
Aidé par son grand frère Aiyegun TOSIN, lui-même joueur professionnel en Europe (actuellement au FC Lorient, Ligue 1, France), Steve a eu l’opportunité de passer à deux reprises des tests dans des clubs européens. Mais Steve n’a pas su démontrer aux clubs concernés qu’il saurait s’imposer et qu’ils pouvaient compter sur lui. Ces deux premières périodes de test se soldent donc par deux échecs. Par chance, une nouvelle opportunité se présente à lui, grâce à un contact de son frère avec un club professionnel en Lituanie. Il va donc falloir rapidement trouver les éléments à changer pour transformer ces échecs en réussite.
Rencontre avec Benjamin BOUKPETI et changement d’état d’esprit
Une personne va aider Steve à se métamorphoser. En effet suite à la rencontre et aux échanges avec Benjamin BOUKPETI, celui-ci va changer petit à petit d’état d’esprit. Il apprend à dompter la fatigue et à se forger petit à petit un esprit de conquérant. Le jeune joueur découvre l’importance de l’engagement total, même lors des journées les plus éprouvantes.
Au cours d’une séance au Bénin, un entraineur propose une opposition pour faire une mise en place tactique, et ce dernier indique à Steve de rester avec quelques autres joueurs en retrait pour faire des exercices techniques. Steve ne supporte pas cet affront, et envahi par la colère, il quitte l’entraînement sur le champ. C’est le président de l’académie qui arrivera à convaincre Steve de faire une séance de « coaching de crise » avec Benjamin pour sortir de cette impasse. Ce coaching va lui permettre de puiser dans son nouvel état d’esprit et de se remettre en ordre de marche.
A ce moment-là Steve fait part à Benjamin d’une réflexion profonde qui lui vient comme une évidence : « Il n’y a que les grands guerriers qui ont la chance de faire face à de grandes batailles ! »
Cette prise de conscience profonde marque un tournant dans le mental de Steve. Et quelques jours avant son départ en Lituanie, il comprend qu’être footballeur professionnel c’est un long chemin. Et que ce n’est qu’un investissement à 100% qui permettra de relever les défis sur le parcours vers la réussite.
La détermination une nouvelle arme pour Steve
Malgré ces évolutions mentales, tout n’est pas gagné pour autant pour Steve. Fort de ce nouvel état d’esprit, il se retrouve malheureusement cloué au lit par une crise de paludisme, quelques jours avant le départ en Lituanie !
A ce moment-là tous ses espoirs commencent à s’envoler. D’ailleurs, lors d’un appel téléphonique son frère lui dit : « Si tu es malade ce n’est pas la peine d’y aller on annule le billet d’avion, ces tests sont voués à l’échec ! »
Malgré cette crise de paludisme juste avant son départ, Steve refuse d’abandonner. Il sait maintenant qu’il est capable d’aller de l’avant et de tenir bon même quand les choses semblent aller mal. Sa volonté l’aide à surmonter les obstacles, même lorsque son corps montre des signes de faiblesse.
Steve s’envole donc finalement pour la Lituanie avec dans la tête le rêve de réussir sa période de test, et de signer son 1er contrat de joueur de football professionnel. Pour ainsi effacer les deux échecs qu’il avait vécus précédemment.
La signature du premier contrat professionnel
Arrivé dans les installations du club BE1 National Football Académy qui l’accueille pour une période de test, il découvre la réalité des exigences du football professionnel en Europe. Le coach donne les consignes uniquement en anglais ! Steve, avec une maîtrise trop limitée de cette langue, se trouve vite en difficulté. De surcroît, il est bousculé par le rythme et l’intensité des entraînements qui s’enchainent. A ce moment-là il commence à prendre conscience que sa préparation au Bénin était bien trop légère.
Malgré tout, dans cette situation, il fait preuve de détermination, notamment stimulé par un coaching quotidien avec Benjamin BOUKPETI. En effet ce dernier l’aide à identifier les petites victoires décrochées chaque jour : « Ce sont les petites gouttes qui forment les grandes rivières ! ». Cette valorisation des petits pas en avant avec Benjamin, va permettre à Steeve de puiser dans ses ressources, pour prendre confiance en lui et se surpasser.
Cette ténacité sera récompensée, puisqu’elle va permettre à Steve DOSSE de signer son 1er contrat de footballeur professionnel en juillet 2023! Cette signature est l’aboutissement d’un travail mental mettant en avant l’état d’esprit nécessaire pour surmonter les défis. Cerise sur le gâteau depuis l’ arrivée de Steeve à BE1 National Football Académy, l’équipe n’a pas perdu un match… série en cours!
Les enseignements de cette expérience
Steve est conscient que le manque de préparation et de constance à l’entraînement, en amont de sa venue en Lituanie auraient pu lui faire rater la période de test, et qu’elles sont un handicap dans sa progression aujourd’hui. En effet, il se retrouve gêné par de petites blessures à répétition indiquant que son corps n’était pas prêt pour encaisser un tel rythme d’entraînements et de compétitions.
Steve nous confie qu’il retient depuis qu’il est là-bas, qu’il ne réalisait pas que c’était réellement important de s’entrainer comme un pro physiquement et mentalement avant de partir. Au Bénin il se voyait au-dessus des autres avec des facilités et se disait qu’une fois arrivé en Europe il s’imposerait rapidement avec son talent naturel. Autre constat qu’il fait, c’est la nécessité d’être préparé à parler très bien l’anglais. En effet dans les échanges avec les coachs et les autres joueurs tout va très vite. Il est nécessaire d’avoir un niveau confirmé en anglais. Heureusement pour Steve que d’autres joueurs africains de l’équipe lui ont traduit les consignes ce qui lui a permis de tenir et de s’en sortir.
Ces constats et cette première victoire pour Steve, doivent permettre aux autres jeunes joueurs de football en Afrique, de croire en leur chance, et surtout de beaucoup mieux se préparer avant de décoller pour essayer d’intégrer un club en Europe. En effet, avec une préparation individuelle sans faille, ils seront armés pour réussir leur période de test dans un club professionnel.

Il ne suffit plus de savoir tapper un ballon. Il y a braucoup de criteres qui vont avec.
